The RE curriculum is taught through the Leicestershire SACRE and Understanding Christianity. Understanding Christianity covers eight core concepts identified at the heart of mainstream Christian belief. It sets out knowledge ‘building blocks’, to clarify what pupils should know and understand about these concepts at each school phase.
Your Right to Withdraw from Religious Education (RE)
We understand that families have different beliefs and values. By law, parents have the right to withdraw their child from all or part of Religious Education (RE) and/or collective worship if they choose. This is set out in the School Standards and Framework Act 1998 (Section 71), which states that a parent’s request to withdraw their child will be honoured until it is withdrawn.
If you would like to exercise this right, please speak to the Headteacher so we can make suitable arrangements for your child during these times. We will always respect your decision and ensure your child is supervised and safe — this will not incur any extra cost to you or the school.
Why we teach RE
RE helps children learn about different religions and worldviews, encouraging respect, understanding, and tolerance. It supports their spiritual, moral, social, and cultural development and helps them make sense of the diverse world around them.
